Why are we doing what we are doing?
We spend so much time thinking about how to care for our horses day in and day out. We think about their feed, their feet, their comfort, and all the little things that make for a good life.
What we don’t talk about nearly as much is what happens when that life ends.
And I understand why. It isn’t a happy topic and surely not a conversation starter. “Hi, I’m Amanda. What will you do when your horse dies?”
But when it happens, there are a lot of difficult questions to answer—made more complicated by the lack of services available.
How do you move a 1,000-pound animal? Where can they go? Who can help? What options do you have?
Our herd enjoying the warm sun on a winter’s day. Cold season can complicate things for owners dealing with loss.
That is why I’m building Tender Transport & Composting.
I want to provide a compassionate, practical option for the part of horse ownership that none of us enjoys thinking about. My goal is to give owners more choices and take some of the logistical burden off their shoulders when they need it most. The fact that we can create a compost product that provides nutritional value and aids in improving soil structure on the lands around us? It feels like a no-brainer.
We can’t make saying goodbye easier.
But I know we can make what comes afterward a little less overwhelming.
