Moving Forward, one step at a time…

I’m happy to share that my custom, private, enclosed trailer is officially on the production line and being welded as I type. So exciting! Something I’ve been working toward is finally becoming a reality…

I’ve also had some worthwhile conversations about the permitting process and learned that obtaining my rendering permit should be a fairly quick process. This permit is an important piece that will allow me to legally transport mortality on our roadways, so hearing that was encouraging.

Another fun note is that I’ve committed to speaking with my local saddle club about the services I’m planning to offer. I’ll have the opportunity to talk about my methods, the tools I’ll be using, and—most importantly—planning for loss and understanding our options.

It’s a topic that can bring a lot of stress and uncertainty to those of us who care for large animals. I’m looking forward to bringing more awareness to a topic that isn’t often talked about, discussing after-death options, and hopefully helping others feel a little more informed and prepared.

And Then There’s Composting…

Determining how to build a composting facility on our farm — a large cement pad, covered storage bays, stormwater management — is an ongoing process. I’m researching grant opportunities and special loan programs while trying to make financially wise decisions and plans with our limited resources.

We seem to sit in a bit of a muddy gray area. There are pieces that are straightforward, and others where I have to educate and illustrate the problems I’m trying to address and determine where we fit.

There’s plenty to do but it feels good to see things moving forward. One step at a time!
